1956 to 2005

Carroll Realty began in 1956 with Mr. Troy Carroll opening a one room real estate office inside Alpharetta City Hall. From the 1950's through the 1970's, our City Hall, still located at 2 South Main Street, was the center of Alpharetta's hustle and bustle- housing our city library, police department, jail, Alpha Drugs, and Alpha Soda (Yes, all in the same building !!!). Carroll Realty is now located at 41 Milton Avenue, still in the heart of Downtown Alpharetta's business district, just one block west of City Hall.

Mr. Carroll was the Justice of the Peace in this area, and had many duties and obligations that kept him busy in addition to his real estate practice. When he wasn't marrying folks, Mr. Carroll also served as a moonshine buster. Our office has many historic photos with Mr. Carroll standing next to some well made Alpharetta stills, ready to be chopped up by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation officers.

Mr. Carroll and his family lived in a beautiful house on the corner of Canton Street and Mayfield Road, where the Alpharetta Library now sits today. Every day, Mr. Carroll would drive the two blocks into town, and go upstairs in City Hall and open up his one room Carroll Realty. There were many interesting real estate projects to work on in those days, including planning where some of Alpharetta's first subdivisions would go, and helping people buy and sell property around a little road to be built called "Georgia 400".

In the early 1970's, Mr. Carroll sold one particular piece of property along Haynes Bridge Road to a young man named Tom Cousins. Everyone thought that only a fool would make such a purchase at such an outlandish price- but 25 years later, Mr. Cousins made fools out of everyone else by developing the most successful mall in the southeast! One could say that Mr. Carroll was the man who actually brought the mall to Alpharetta- by having a vision, and instilling that vision unto Mr. Cousins.   Do you have your own visions of what Alpharetta has in store for you?
